About us

UAF CFOS has three departments (Fisheries, Marine Biology, and Oceanography) whose 42 faculty and 138 graduate students work with local communities, Tribes, agencies, and the fishing industry, and do research from the Arctic to the Antarctic, including inland waters, coastal systems, and the deep ocean. CFOS operates NSF’s R/V Sikuliaq, an ice-capable research ship, as well as smaller research vessels, and has coastal research and laboratory facilities in Juneau, Seward, and Kachemak Bay.
