The Opportunity
As an ASI Assessor, you will join a team of Assessors responsible for ensuring compliance with the MSC certification program. As an MSC Fishery Assessor, you will report directly to the ASI MSC Program Operation Manager. You will be responsible for planning, performing and following up on ASI assessments of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) concerning the MSC certifications conducted following the requirements of the MSC accreditation program.
Your core responsibility will include carrying out evaluations in many different ways: auditing of CABs against MSC requirements by onsite evaluation of CABs' records, systems, and documents, interviewing CAB personnel, by desk review, by witnessing CAB audits, and conducting investigations on integrity risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and performing accreditation and surveillance assessments globally.
- Preparing assessment reports and following up on nonconformities according to accreditation standards and ASI procedures.
- Liaising with the MSC Management teams.
- Reviewing and commenting on new or revised MSC Fisheries Certification Requirements.
- Developing new or revising procedures and policies.
- Carrying out technical review of ASI assessment reports on behalf of ASI.
- Communicating internally with the MSC Program Operation Manager and Program Technical Manager.
- Providing technical support on incidents, complaints, and appeals.
- Providing technical support on MSC objection processes.
What You Bring
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professionalism: Expertise in fisheries certification systems, particularly Marine Stewardship Council. Experience in the fisheries industry is desirable.
- Independence: Ethical, independent, and free from conflicts of interest.
- Auditing and Analytical skills: Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Communication skills: Fluent in English. French and/or German would be desirable.
- Organizational skills: Excellent planning, work ethic, and project management.
- Interpersonal skills: Ability to work in a multicultural team.
Experience and Education
- Experience: Several years in fisheries certification and/or consultancy within a multicultural environment. Traceability sector experience is a plus.
- Education: Master's degree or relevant academic qualifications in fisheries.
- Qualification: Marine Stewardship Council Fisheries Assessor qualification.
