The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.

This position is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient daily operations of LDWF's Bodcau Shooting Range, including acting as chief range safety officer when needed. Incumbent is responsible for enforcing safety rules and regulations for the range, and ensuring that the entire facility and all operations are maintained at the highest standards. Incumbent will assist in coordinating volunteer Range Safety Officers' activities, including recruitment and training of these volunteers. May oversee activities and work product of LDWF student worker(s).

No experience or training is required.

Job Duties

• Oversees the day-to-day operations and maintenance of assigned shooting range to ensure that it is made available to the public and used in a safe manner.
• Regular weekend work is required.
• Physical demands include lifting of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods, and work outside under a wide range of environmental conditions.

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills

• Experience in operating a shooting range.
• Proficiency with shooting range technology and equipment.
• Range Safety Officer certification.

Position-Specific Details

The position is domiciled in Bossier.

Appointment Type: Position will be filled as a four (4) year job appointment. If funding becomes available, the position may be converted to probational.

Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group and may be filled as WLF Technician A-C, determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
