Call for Experts | Future opportunities with Blue-jobs

Location: Remote, based in Europe. Residence in Spain is desirable.
Availability: Agreed, fixed working hours and willingness to travel for events and project activities.

About this call

Blue-jobs is gathering profiles of motivated communication professionals interested in collaborating with us on opportunities that may arise in the coming months.

This is a call for experts for future assignments, rather than recruitment for an immediately available position. The scope, start date and level of involvement will depend on upcoming projects and business needs.

About Blue-jobs

Blue-jobs connects talent with opportunities in the blue economy. Through our career platform, recruitment services, training and consultancy activities, we help professionals develop their marine careers and support organisations in finding the skills they need.

We also conduct market intelligence studies and provide blue economy consultancy services to international clients, supporting informed decisions on skills, employment and sector development.

Our LinkedIn presence reaches more than 70,000 followers, while our recently launched Instagram account has already reached 5,000. Behind these numbers is a community of professionals with ambitions, expertise and experiences to share. Our communication should help them connect, learn and take their next career step.

We are a small company with a strong sense of purpose. Working with us means contributing across different activities, taking ownership and bringing energy, ideas and passion to our mission.

Your role

You will help develop and deliver Blue-jobs’ communication activities, creating relevant content and meaningful opportunities to engage with our community.

The role combines social media, content creation, newsletters, webinars, website updates, design and event communication, alongside support for the communication and dissemination of European projects.

We are looking for someone who understands our audience, proposes fresh ideas and helps build lasting relationships with our community.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage LinkedIn and Instagram: Plan, create, schedule and publish content adapted to each platform, maintaining a consistent brand voice and visual identity.
  • Create multimedia content: Produce videos, reels, posts, carousels and interviews that inform, inspire and encourage participation.
  • Write editorial content: Prepare blog articles, newsletter stories, website updates and other content covering blue careers, skills, opportunities and sector developments.
  • Coordinate newsletters: Develop editorial calendars, select relevant content, prepare and distribute newsletters, and monitor their performance.
  • Update the website: Publish and maintain blog articles, news, event pages and other content, ensuring information is accurate, engaging and up to date.
  • Organise webinars: Propose topics, contact and coordinate speakers, prepare promotional and presentation materials, support delivery and organise follow-up communication.
  • Design communication materials: Create graphics, presentations, event materials and other visual assets for Blue-jobs and its projects.
  • Make research accessible: Translate technical studies, market intelligence and project findings into clear articles, infographics, videos and other formats that audiences can understand and use.
  • Support European project communication: Contribute to communication plans, dissemination activities, partner coordination, content production and reporting.
  • Participate in events: Support communication before, during and after job fairs, conferences and workshops, including creating content on site and representing Blue-jobs.
  • Engage with our community: Respond to comments and messages, encourage conversations and propose initiatives that bring professionals closer together.
  • Monitor and improve results: Track content performance, audience feedback and engagement, using these insights to improve our communication.

What you should bring

We are looking for a curious, creative and motivated junior professional who believes in the Blue-jobs mission and wants to grow with us.

You should bring:

  • Some practical experience in communication, social media or content creation, gained through employment, internships, freelance work, volunteering or personal projects.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish. Both languages are mandatory.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format to different audiences.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn and Instagram, including reels, carousels and community engagement.
  • Proficiency in Canva is mandatory, including creating graphics, presentations, social media content and other branded materials.
  • The ability to edit short videos using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail, including managing content calendars and coordinating several activities.
  • An interest in the blue economy, sustainability, skills and professional development.
  • Initiative and the confidence to propose ideas, test new approaches and learn from results.
  • Autonomy and the ability to turn ideas into practical actions.
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to contribute across different areas of a small company.
  • An understanding of how communication can support community relationships, partnerships and business development.

We want someone who asks: “What would be useful to our community, and how can we get them involved?” Your ideas will be an important part of the role.

Desirable experience

  • Residence in Spain, given our national activities and events.
  • Experience producing newsletters, organising webinars or supporting events.
  • Experience planning and managing paid advertising campaigns, particularly on LinkedIn and Instagram.
  • Experience using Mailchimp to create, distribute and monitor newsletters.
  • Experience using Zoom to organise and manage large online events and webinars.
  • Experience working with WordPress, including publishing and updating website content.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and using results to improve content and engagement.
  • Experience communicating research, technical subjects or European projects.
  • Knowledge of the marine and maritime sectors.
  • A portfolio demonstrating your writing, design, video or social media work.

Working with us

  • Remote work from a European base, with agreed, fixed working hours to support coordination.
  • A close working relationship with a small, mission-driven team.
  • Opportunities to communicate with an established international community of blue economy professionals.
  • Space to propose ideas, take ownership and develop your communication skills.
  • Guidance and feedback to help you learn about our sector, audiences and projects.
  • Opportunities to participate in job fairs, webinars, conferences and European project activities.
  • Travel when required for events and project meetings, including activities in Spain.

Remuneration and contractual conditions

Remuneration, contract type, workload and duration will be discussed with pre-selected candidates and will depend on the scope, funding and requirements of upcoming projects.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through the Blue-jobs platform, including your CV and a tailored cover letter. Please also include a portfolio or links to examples of your work, if available.

A cover letter is mandatory. Applications without a cover letter, or with a generic cover letter, will not be considered. Applications submitted outside the Blue-jobs platform will not be considered.

In your cover letter, please explain:

  • How your experience and skills meet the requirements of this role.
  • Why you believe in the Blue-jobs mission and want to work with us.
  • How you could contribute and bring added value to our communication.
  • One or two ideas you would propose to engage our community of professionals.
  • Your country of residence, availability and willingness to travel.

Our advice: Be specific. Use examples to show how you fit the role, and help us understand your ideas and approach to community engagement.
